No, there are a lot of ways to get a good looking abs and here are some tips for you
1. Get rid of the flab first! Even though your workout may tone and strengthen your ab muscles, you won’t be able to tell unless you get rid of the layer of fat on top. You can do this by less eating fatty foods and controlling your diet, any appetite suppressant and diet pills can help you out on this one
2. You don’t have to do a full sit-up, crunches are just as good. You’re using your abdominal muscles to lift yourself off the floor. After your shoulders leave the floor, your lower back and hip muscles are doing the work, so you really don’t need to do the full sit-up.
3. Do just a few reps each set, like 10-15. Your abdominals should be treated just like the other muscles in your body. If it’s too easy to do more reps it’s not that effective an exercise, or you’re doing it wrong.
4. Take a day or two break from working your abs. You also don’t want to overwork your lower back and neck muscles.
5. Use your abdominal muscles to lift, do not use your neck and head to avoid soreness.
6. Suck in your abs, and also don’t arch your back or flatten it during crunches. Leave a half inch or so between your back and the floor.
7. The floor is as good a way to do your abdominal workout as using any machine. Most of the machines work your hips and back more than your abs. Plus, the floor is challenging and offers variety.
8. When you do a crunch, you need to curl forward, like you are doubling over.
9. Keep your elbows still. They should be out and rounded slightly inward to avoid pulling on your neck.

There sure are!! It happens to a lot of people and I know what you mean. just want great abs fast!
Here are a few things that I pulled from an article to get you started (more in the source box)
1. Replace Crunches with Stability Ball Rollouts. You’ll get a more powerful stretch in the Rollout exercise, and a more powerful contraction, all without doing excessive and dangerous spinal flexion.
2. Replace Crunches on the Ball with a Plank with Arms on the Ball. According to the Men’s Health magazine, research shows that a Plank with Arms on the Ball is 30% more effective in working your abs.
3. Replace Bicycle Crunches with X-Body Mountain Climbers. This unique total-body ab exercise still works your obliques, but without repetitive crunching. Plus, it helps build invaluable abdominal endurance and stability to keep your low back healthy.
Good luck and get ripped!

No!! Doing 1000 crunches a day is actually a horrible way to get a six pack.
The reality is that no matter how strong your abs are (and by the way, doing 1000 crunches a day won’t do much do get your abs strong … it will just build extreme endurance, if anything) if you have a layer of fat covering them, you won’t be able to see them.
Really, you have to focus on your diet and hard, productive workouts. Check out the link below for a few great ab exercises that don’t train your abs at all!

You have to do more than abs exercises to get abs because your stomach muscles are covered by fat and if you don’t get rid of the fat you will never see your abs. Muscle building all over your body will help you burn fat because the more muscle you have the higher your metabolism will be and the more fat you will burn.
Here are some other abs exercises besides crunches in a video that are kind of different and seem to work pretty well:

No, a lot of crunches won’t help you. The most effective way is short, interval type of exercises. There are many types of exercises that you can do, but it is vital to do them in an interval format.
You can look at my source for a sample of one exercise set in an Interval format.
To compliment this exercise routine, you can also look at the Interval running routine that helps with fat burn and Cardio.
Getting rid of fat is important, because while you are building your abs, you also need to make sure to get rid of the layer of fat covering them.
Also remember that what you eat is the most important part of you exercise routine if you want to see good results.
